Ultralight Insulated Sleeping Pads: XLite NXT vs Tensor vs XR Pro
Specifications checked October 20, 2026. This comparison uses manufacturer data for the XLite NXT Regular, Tensor All-Season Regular Mummy and Ether Light XR Pro Regular. We have not tested these pads side by side. Ratings and the overall choice reflect the trade-offs below, not measured comfort or noise.
R-value describes resistance to heat transfer through a pad. It is not a minimum-temperature rating for your complete sleep system. See our sleeping-pad insulation and R-value explainer before choosing for cold conditions.
Therm-a-Rest NeoAir XLite NXT
The Regular is listed at 370 g / 13 oz, with R-value 4.5, dimensions 183 × 51 cm and thickness 7.6 cm. It has the lowest listed pad weight here. The manufacturer’s specification is 370 g; converting its rounded 13 oz to grams would give a different number and should not replace the metric specification.
The WingLock valve, included inflation sack and packed dimensions of 23 × 10 cm complete a compact option. Our source is the current Therm-a-Rest product page at Cascade Designs, where the former thermarest.com product URL now redirects.
NEMO Tensor All-Season
NEMO’s Regular Mummy specifications list 400 g / 14.1 oz minimum weight, R-value 5.4 and dimensions 183 × 51 cm. Its nominal length and width match the XLite Regular, although identical outer dimensions do not imply identical sleeping area or comfort.
The Tensor is 30 g heavier with a higher R-value, making it our specification-based compromise between these two sizes. Its 3.5-inch thickness is about 8.9 cm; packed dimensions are 25.5 × 10 cm. NEMO separately lists 480 g packed weight, including accessories. The 400 g figure does not describe the rectangular Regular or wider versions.
Sea to Summit Ether Light XR Pro
The XR Pro Regular specification table lists 560 g / 19.8 oz pad weight, 620 g packed weight, R-value 7.4 and dimensions 183 × 55 cm. At 10 cm thick it has the highest R-value and greatest thickness here, but also the highest pad weight.
This is the XR Pro: the manufacturer’s product heading and description identify it explicitly, even though its browser title omits “Pro.” The Regular is 4 cm wider than the other selected pads. That extra width matters when interpreting its weight; a weight ratio does not account for differences in surface area. Its packed dimensions are 21 × 12 × 12 cm.
What the weight comparison does—and does not—show
These are published pad/minimum weights, not complete carried-kit weights. Tensor and XR Pro packed weights include accessories; Therm-a-Rest does not give an equivalent separate packed-weight figure on this product page. We therefore do not rank complete kits. We also do not rank noise from valve design or comfort from thickness alone.
The calculation below divides R-value by each manufacturer’s rounded ounce figure. It is a rough selection aid for these exact sizes, not a standardized efficiency measure or a temperature guarantee. It does not adjust for pad shape, area or accessories.
| Selected model and size | R-value | Listed pad weight | Nominal length × width | R-value per listed ounce |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| XLite NXT Regular | 4.5 | 370 g / 13 oz | 183 × 51 cm | 0.346 |
| Tensor All-Season Regular Mummy | 5.4 | 400 g / 14.1 oz | 183 × 51 cm | 0.383 |
| Ether Light XR Pro Regular | 7.4 | 560 g / 19.8 oz | 183 × 55 cm | 0.374 |
Tensor leads this limited ratio comparison, including against the XLite at matching nominal length and width. XLite leads on absolute pad weight; XR Pro leads on R-value and offers a wider surface. Those are distinct priorities, and the small ratio difference between Tensor and XR Pro should not override fit or the insulation your trip requires.
This is a comparison of three selected models, not an exhaustive winter-pad shortlist. Check the exact size, current availability and shipping region on each manufacturer’s site before purchasing.
